My rating: 5 of 5 stars
War is catastrophe. It breaks families in irretrievable pieces. But those who are gone are not necessarily lost.
Ruta did it again. Salt To The Sea is the most fantastic and well-written book I ever read. I'm surprised just reading this book, I improve my knowledge about the Wilhelm Gustloff.
Look how massive is the Wilhelm Gustloff.

About the story
~ Salt to the Sea is a 2016 historical fiction novel by Ruta Sepetys. Winter, 1945. Four teenagers. Four secrets.
Each one born of a different homeland; each one hunted, and haunted, by tragedy, lies…and war. As thousands of desperate refugees flock to the coast in the midst of a Soviet advance, four paths converge, vying for passage aboard the Wilhelm Gustloff, a ship that promises safety and freedom.
Yet not all promises can be kept.
I actually love the writing style in this book. The way the author wrote we can know that this book is well researched. It was easy to read and understand what the author try to enjoin the reader and I find this book different from her previous work. This book more action and sometimes make you at the edge of your seat.
There are four main characters in this book:
Joana, Florian, Emilia and Alfred.
Each of the characters told the story from each their point of view. I find it so interesting. You can see how the author created a different personality in just one book!
Joana and Florian are my favourite character. Joana is a Lithuanian and Florian is Prussian.
From the start, I don't really like Florian. But towards the end, I'm happy that He and Joana are ending up together. This is not a spoiler, okay. Florian did really like her from the start of the story.
Joana: Guilt is a hunter
Florian: Fate is a hunter
I suddenly remember that Joana is Lina Vilkas' cousin from from Between Shade Of Gray

Emilia is a fifteen year old Polish girl. She was saved by Florian when she got attacked by a Russian soldier.
Emilia is pregnant in the beginning of the story and most of her narration are about August and her family and her baby and how she really believes that Florian is her Saviour and how good is Joana, helping her when she still in hardship.
Emilia: Shame is a hunter
My least favourite character is Alfred . He was a young German sailor. I don't actually know how to write about him. But this single word might explain everything, Medal .
Alfred: Fear is a hunter
Other than main characters, A shoe poet is also my favourite. He really know a person like his/ her personality and feeling by just looking at the person's shoes. How awesome was that?
Ingrid is also in the list of my favourites. Sadly, she's (view spoiler)
In conclusion, I like this book. It's Phenomenal and can make you cry.
I wish this book written in a chapter number not by characters' name because I have such hard time to take notes every time I read this book.
I highly recommend this to all human in this world.
